From September 22d to 29th, fifty-five classmates, wives, widows,
family members, and friends enjoyed the tropical beauty of the Hawaiian
Islands and activity aboard the SS Norwegian Star, visiting Oahu,
the Island of Hawaii, Fanning Island, Maui, and Kauai.
Those of us who arrived in the Islands early had a dinner at the
Hale Koa Armed Forces Hotel the night before departure. (Most of
us also stayed there for a day or two prior to departure; it's a
beautiful and well-run hotel right on Waikiki Beach. If you have
never been there, we recommend it enthusiastically!)
Aboard ship we enjoyed two hosted cocktail parties for our group:
the first one on day one and the other on our last day. During the
cruise, there were many, many on-shore tours that were available,
and most of us took advantage of them to better see the islands.
We also took advantage of the ten restaurants and fourteen bars
aboard our ship.
At debarkation, many of us returned to the mainland, while others
went on to other islands for a longer taste of Hawaii.
All in all, it was an enjoyable reunion with the opportunity to
see Hawaii as well as to see again many of our classmates.
